New charity of the year announced – Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal – Southend Hospital
Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation is raising vital funds to improve the delivery of radiotherapy treatment, bettering the lives of patients undergoing cancer treatment in Mid and South Essex.
One of our current team members had to undergo radiotherapy treatment in 2023 so put forward the appeal as a potential charity for Swiftclean to sponsor in 2025, and the employee panel chose it from a variety of charity suggestions.
The Cancer centre at Southend Hospital alone delivers some 30,000 doses of radiotherapy treatment each year to approximately 2,500 patients across Mid and South Essex.
They aim to raise £600,000 to fund ultra-precise, state-of-the-art radiotherapy positioning devices that provide set-up and motion management during radiotherapy.
At the time of writing, they have raised £495,000 towards the £600,000 target.
Elise Fleetwood, Events & Corporate Relations Manager at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, said: “We are so appreciative of Swiftclean’s support, which will really help us reach our appeal target and improve the lives of our future cancer patients. The Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal was set up to fund state-of-the-art technology that will dramatically improve the experience of radiotherapy treatment for patients in mid and south Essex with regards to comfort, speed and accuracy. We are hugely thankful to everyone within our local community who has helped us so far. We could not achieve projects like this without the support of people like yourself; thank you again”.
Each year, Swiftclean supports a charity that its team members have nominated. Fundraising events take place throughout the year where they take part in games, competitions, quizzes, and raffles to raise as much as possible.
2025 will kick off with a brand new social committee at Swiftclean, headed by Nicola, Operations Executive Assistant, organising events such as charity fundraising days, raffles, and a baking competition.
As well as raising funds the team is planning to help out in the two charity shops that raise money for Southend Hospital, one in Hamlet Court Road, the other in Hadleigh. The charity needs more helpers to join the ranks of existing volunteers.
Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal is always looking for volunteers, particularly in their shops, if you are interested, please get in touch, jobs include sorting stock and serving. No experience is needed, and training and support are provided.
We look forward to working with them and helping them reach their target for these vitally needed pieces of equipment – click on the link below if you’d like to help in one of their shops – even if it’s a few hours on a Saturday morning.
