Swiftclean – A sporting company!
Swiftclean has had a long association with local rugby club, Rochford Hundred, a rugby union club based near Rochford in Essex.
Started in 1962 by two keen players wanting to address the lack of clubs in the area, it has since made great strides forward and is now a well-established force within rugby circles.
Currently, the first XV team plays in London & South East premier division, having reached the national levels of the sport for the first time in 2019 following two consecutive promotions. They also operate other adult teams including ladies’ and have a full academy set-up of junior teams for both boys and girls.
Swiftclean’s MD, Gary Nicholls, started playing at Rochford Hundred at age 15 and captained the Colts (Colts are aged between 16 and 21). He subsequently represented Essex and Eastern Counties at under 21 level, progressing into senior Rugby from 17 years of age playing many matches for the Harts and a few for the 1st team. He met his late business partner Paul Argles at the club in the Colts, with whom he originally started the company. Swiftclean has sponsored them for the last twenty years in a variety of ways including:
- Placing adverts in their matchday program and handbook
- Sponsoring their Christmas lunches
- Holding our annual summer BBQs and award ceremonies at the club
- Sponsoring pitchside boards
Swiftclean’s values of Respect, Honesty, and Ownership make it a natural partner to the club, and the next generation of Gary’s family has already become involved in the rugby tradition. Not only did his two sons play, but more recently, his 2-year-old grandson ‘AKA BIG BAXTER’ now plays in the ‘little rascals’ team’ – starting early just before his second birthday. The team is coached by Stevie Reid and is a great introduction to rugby for future players. As non-contact rugby, it is open to children aged two and above and is a great way for them to burn off energy while having fun.
Baxter, who is the son of Swiftclean’s Head of Shared Services, Abbey Maxwell, trains weekly at the club and particularly loves running at full speed around the pitch and playing all sorts of fun rugby-related games!
Service Delivery Executive Assistant, Nicola, also has a young son who attends the Little Rascals.
We’re extremely proud to be associated with this successful and community-minded club and look forward to our union continuing for many years.
