Inspection, Testing & Maintenance
Fire dampers are crucial passive fire protection devices that play a vital role in preventing the spread of smoke and fire.
However, if they are not regularly checked, tested, cleaned, and maintained then they can fail to work in an emergency, putting the lives of those in the building at risk and allowing smoke and fire to rapidly spread throughout the property.

How Do Fire Dampers Work?
Fire dampers are fitted inside HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) ductwork where they pass through fire compartment barriers such as – fireproof ceilings, walls, floors, and partitions.
The dampers themselves comprise of spring-loaded shutters which remain open the majority of the time when the damper is not in use, allowing air to pass freely throughout the ducts. There are different types of sensors, but most use a fusible link which will melt when a certain temperature is reached and triggers the damper that quickly springs shut.
