Gary Nicholls

Gary Nicholls, MD of Swiftclean and co-author of TR19 Grease. Gary started Swiftclean over 40 years ago and is a recognised expert in managing risk posed by the build-up of grease in commercial kitchen extraction systems.

He has served as an expert witness in various commercial legal disputes between insurers, insured and contractors involved in maintaining kitchen extraction systems. He introduced both the Wet Film Thickness test and the Predictive Accumulation Assessment Table to the industry specification, which is used by hundreds of contractors to manage this specific fire risk.

Martin Hembling

Martin Hembling, Commercial Director of Swiftclean, has been in the industry for over 25 years, rising from cleaning operative at Swiftclean to Commercial Director he has extensive experience in solution-solving for clients with multi-sites and differing cleaning frequency requirements.

He can advise on both the resolution of access issues and appropriate cleaning frequencies from a single site client which requires as little as one clean a year to a multi-site client which has some units requiring as much as twice weekly cleaning to keep the average levels of grease TR19 Grease compliant and the fire risks controlled. His expert knowledge will help with the understanding of the current regulations as well as compliance with maintenance specifications and the client’s insurance warranties. He regularly communicates with varying clients at all stages and facilitates regular reviews with them to support them in practical risk control measures.

Chris Major

Chris Major, the Head of Operations at BESA, has been leading on the VHR Scheme since its inception in 2019. With a wealth of experience in management, specialising in operations and product development, Chris has played a pivotal role in the success and growth of the scheme.

His efforts in launching a company compliance scheme have been highly successful, attracting 154 members since its start. Chris has also been instrumental in developing the audit schedule and checklists used to assess members’ compliance with TR19 standards. His commitment to ensuring high compliance standards has been key in maintaining the scheme’s integrity and reliability.
