The opportunity

We are looking for a Legionella Monitoring Technician to join our established team, covering the Slough area. This is a varied field-based role, carrying out planned preventative maintenance and water hygiene tasks to support the effective control of Legionella bacteria.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks to support the control of Legionella bacteria.
• Complete temperature monitoring of water services, including plant and distribution systems.
• Undertake shower cleaning and descaling, water tank cleaning and disinfection.
• Inspect water services plant, including cold water storage tanks and calorifiers.
• Carry out TMV inspections, servicing and basic water system remedial works, including removing dead legs and water tanks.
• Collect water samples for microbiological analysis.
• Identify potential non-conformances beyond the immediate scope of works.
• Complete all tasks in line with company method statements, procedures and health and safety requirements.
• Liaise professionally with client and site personnel regarding work progress, issues and remedial requirements.
• Communicate progress issues or site problems to the office promptly.
• Represent Swiftclean professionally and help promote a positive company image.
• Liaise with the sales team on important site issues and required remedial works.

About you

You will have strong technical knowledge of hot and cold domestic water systems and a proactive approach to identifying and reporting potential compliance issues. You should be confident working on client sites, communicating clearly and maintaining a professional standard at all times.

What does a typical day look like?

Every day is different, compliance tasks each day will vary from monitoring PPM ( planned Preventative Maintenance) tasks, water sampling, TMV ( thermostatic mixing valve)  servicing and tank cleaning etc. The role is varied, and you will have the opportunity to visit lots of different types of sites, working with a variety of clients in different sectors, ensuring all tasks are carried out safely and in line with current regulations.

What type of water sites will I be sampling?

Sampling will be carried out at both commercial and residential sites, covering all different sectors.

How much travel or lone working is involved?

On PPM tasks, it will be typically be lone working, with opportunities to carry out tank cleaning and remedial works as part of a remedial team.  You will often find yourself working within your PPM territory, although there may be times when you are asked to travel further afield depending on the requirements of the job.

What is the shift pattern?

You will be contracted Monday to Friday, with weekend working available and the opportunity for overtime. Due to the services we carry out, these are typically day working hours, however, may be required for out of hours working (at present, this is rare).

What specific equipment or software will I use?

You will be provided with standard stock, along with using a digital compliance system for job reporting.

Are special certifications or safety tickets required before starting?

A City & Guild qualification relevant to the role, and any plumbing related certification would be an advantage.

What training and progression opportunities are provided?

We provide a full induction when you join us, including time at our head office to go through our current processes and procedures. We also invest in external training to help you build your skill set and support your development, including qualifications such as City & Guilds relevant qualification. We also have a Swiftclean training academy, that we offer – Legionella awareness and responsible person courses.

Is there much plumbing work involved? What do I need to be able to do?

Basic plumbing knowledge would be an advantage, as we also carry out small remedial works, such as dead-leg removal, TMV replacements, expansion vessel configuration.
