Swiftclean, the Essex based air and water hygiene specialists have been working with Mouchel who are a consulting and business services group over the last 10 years specifically on a contract to supply Bedfordshire schools with legionella risk assessments and remedial works. This extensive contract covers 154 schools that come under the remit of either Central Bedfordshire or Bedford Borough Council and Swiftclean tender for this work every 3 years. Tony Winterson, Mechanical and Electrical Engineer at Mouchel is responsible for the smooth running of the schools contract. Tony has worked with Swiftclean since they won the original contract back in 1999. Tony says “Swiftclean works with Mouchel in providing a comprehensive legionella risk assessment programme for schools and council proper ties in Bedfordshire as well as carrying out remedial works as necessary.
As one of the leading water hygiene companies in the country with many years experience, Mouchel has the confidence that this specialist work is being carried out in acompetent and efficient way ensuring that all requirements of ACOP L8 are being met.
Swiftclean is also experienced in ductwork and extract system cleaning and has a contract for the cleaning of kitchen extract systems, again giving the confidence that legal requirements are being met”. There are a number of challenges when working in schools especially relating to water work. Work normally has to be carried out outside normal school hours, often the building infrastructure is old and tanks can be difficult to access. Teaching staff are often unaware of their responsibilities and scope of the work that is required and therefore require assistance and advice. To help with this, Swiftclean run free training seminars to educate schools staff on the issues, pitfalls and solutions of all aspects relating to air and water hygiene and can raise awareness regarding the latest government and industry legislation.
