Building a Career in the Saddle: Summer’s Journey Continues
Since our last update with Summer, she has made the move back across the pond, to the UK where she is pursuing a full-time career in horses, currently building up her clientele in the local area, teaching and schooling horses for clients.
This follows brief stints working with horses in Ireland and Germany, before settling back here in the UK for now. Building on her vast experience, including new skills learnt in Australia, Summer is enjoying the flexibility that running her own schedule of work offers, and most of all enjoying the diversity of horses she is riding.
“One morning I could be helping to back a young horse (the term for training a horse to be ridden), and in the afternoon I might be competing someone’s horses for them at a local showjumping event, then in the evening I could be exercising someone’s team of horses for them whilst their daughter is away at university,” says Summer, “every day is different and I am doing what I love, working with horses – what could be better?”
In addition to schooling and training sessions, Summer also offers a comprehensive holiday livery service. This involves caring for horses directly at their home yards, ensuring that they receive the attention and care they need while their owners are away. The service also offers the option to ride and exercise the horse or pony during this period. This allows each animal to maintain their fitness and enjoy some stimulation, making it a great choice for busy owners who want to ensure their horses are well looked after and remain active.
Somehow, Summer exemplifies determination by managing to compete with her own team of horses. Recently, she found success with Alfie XXVI at British Showjumping, winning two classes in one day, showcasing the power of hard work and passion.
